The challenge
An extensive list of new and old world wines, local beers, and rotating cocktails, plus a staff expected to speak fluently about all of it.
The solution
Uncorkd wine menus on 20 iPads across the dining rooms and bar, in a high volume tourist area.
The result
More guest engagement and beverage sales, noticeably stronger staff wine knowledge, and not a single iPad lost.
Tavern at the Park sits across the street from Millennium Park, serving contemporary American food with what partner Donny de Castro calls a pure Chicago ideal of hospitality. The beverage list runs deep: new and old world wines, local beers, and specialty cocktails that change several times a year. The team wanted guests to dive into that list rather than skim it, and wanted service to stay a step ahead of it.
The restaurant put Uncorkd menus on 20 iPads across the dining rooms and the bar. Servers use them as a training tool as much as a menu: the wine list they were tested on during onboarding is now in their hands all shift.
The menus generate buzz with guests and steady positive feedback, and that engagement shows up in beverage sales. Staff wine knowledge is sharper, updates to the ever-changing list take minutes, and management spends less time on upkeep in one of hospitality’s toughest markets.
